The Video Awards

So today one of our videos found its way to the front page of Meneame, you can see the post here (thanks parminzzo) . Meneame is a Spanish based site which is similar to Digg. Here’s the post on Digg which explains it in English. I wish I could understand the comments… thanks goodness for google translate :).

Good news, you can now submit videos from Break and Dailymotion! And to kick it off here’s a Dave Chappelle Mac Parody Video.

We’re always looking for more providers to add to our list. Know of one we missed? Let us know!

So one question we’ve been meaning to answer is the fact that we do not require people to login to the site to vote. This is actually by design and not by accident or “lack of functionality.” We believe there is value in anonymous. We want to make the experience as painless as possible. You can come to the site, upload a video, vote and comment without the “baggage” of creating a new account. People may be more likely to interact.

Now with that said, there is definitely some value in allowing people to create a profile, vote and save their selections for later. It builds a community around the site and that makes sense. So hopefully soon, you’ll see the ability to create a new account and start your own profile on TVA.

But until then, get your quick video fix, vote and comment away!

This is one we’ve been meaning to put up for a while but haven’t had the chance. Just click on the “email” link under the video and you can send them off to any of your friends (considering they have an email address.)

We’ve also updated the design a bit as we experiment with the layout. Nothing extreme just a little tweaks here and there.

One additional update for the popular video section. We’ve updated the rss feed for both Grouper and iFilm to pull a more frequently changing popular list. Unfortunately, Google is still only providing RSS for the top 100 which rarely changes.

We’ve added a new feature on The Video Awards which allows you now to promote your video. Now after posting your video you’ll be presented with a couple of new graphics that you can place right on your own website. We’ve got two now but i’m sure we’ll add some more.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that our official home for The Video Awards Blog is now at http://www.thevideoawards.com/blog. We’ll continue to post in both locations for awhile until everyone has moved. If you’re using the feeburner feed then you’ll be ok, but if you’re subscribed to the wordpress feed please make sure to update.

Just a quick couple of notes.  We’ve update the homepage to now show the most popular for today.  This has changed from the most recent.  We’ve also added the ability to limit or expand the amount of videos shown on one page.  You can now show 3, 6, 12 or 24… we’ll see how these initial sets work and then tweak from there if needed.
